Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Sales
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Sales
On July 12, Studio MDHR announced that Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course has gone Platinum, which means that it had sold over one million copies since its release on June 30.
Selling one million copies is no small feat, especially in less than two weeks but approximately how much profit is Studio MDHR making and how is it selling compared to the original 2017 title.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course seems to be on a similar pace with the original and maybe even a little less because in 2017, Cuphead sold 1 million copies in its first week with continued sales around 2 million in the first two months.
There are two ways to look at this. Glass Half Full is that Studio MDHR was prepared for sales of the DLC to be less, as DLC typically can’t match the sales of a base game because gamers have moved on.
On the Glass Half Empty side, it has to be assumed that initial sales for Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course were projected to be higher because of thesix million people who bought the base game since 2017 and were hungry for more combined with the increased availability on all consoles and PC this time around.
As for profitability, it’s safe to assume that based on the six million copies sold of the original, and using basic math at around 20 bucks per copy sold works out to about 120 million. Even after removing salaries, marketing, licensing and all other expenses, Studio MDHR should be in a great financial position for the road ahead, whether that is more Cuphead or something completely new.
