Little Big Planet Nintendo Switch

Little Big Planet Nintendo Switch

Here’s a very interesting story that came from Nintendo Voice Chat, IGN’s Nintendo Podcast. When talking about E3 of years past sometime between 2006 and 2008, Peer Schneider mentioned one time he was just casually chatting with Reggie Fils-Aime, former president of Nintendo of America

As Peer was at the Nintendo booth, Reggie asked “what did you see from the competition you liked” to which Peer responded “Little Big Planet looks really, really cool. Looks like something Nintendo would do”

What happened next was pretty interested as Reggie candidly responded with “Yeah, we talked to that developer, we looked at that game before it was announced. We really thought about it. Why didn’t we get it?” as Reggie turned around to get input from someone else from Nintendo to which they mumbled quietly and then abruptly ended Reggie telling anymore details of what happened inside Nintendo.

It’s very interesting to hear this story and how close this was to happening. LittleBigPlanent sold over 1.3 million copies in its first few months, Sackboy became the face of the PS3 and Media Molecule was acquired by 2010 by Sony after signing an exclusive deal in 2006, which sounds like Nintendo was in the running for as well.

It’s hard to imagine the series not being ultra successful on Nintendo as their consoles are built for these type of games. With 3 mainline games, multiple handhelds, spinoff titles and even a PS5 launch title, the sky could have been the limit.
