Most Anticipated 2019 Games
Keep in mind that there will be a lot of games that release in 2019 that we don’t have concrete dates for yet as well as games that will come out of nowhere that we weren’t expecting either. With having said that without further ado here is my list for the top games in 2019 I am looking forward to. I could have listed a lot more than the top 5 but decided to keep it a little more brief than every game in 2019. Enjoy
The Division 2
A huge fan of the first entry in the series that was great base for what this universe could grow to be. Unfortunately you were able to reach the end game rather quickly which then became very stagnant and grindy. Based on previews the sequel seems to be aware of this and has implemented many ways to keep the game fresh. It seems to have improved on nearly all aspects of the first game. Division 2 is more of an evolution of the first game instead of a revolution in the genre. More of the first game refined sounds like a great time to explore Washington.
Resident Evil 2
The caveat here is that by the time you hear or read this Resident evil will most likely already be in your hands. This was one of my favourite games growing up that I never finished because I was too young and not good enough but I am ready to defeat it now. This game isn't a simple texture fix like most remasters turn out to be This is a full on remake using the resident evil 7 engine, which looked amazing when that game was released. I think this game was given the care it deserves and it will be something to keep an eye on for its sales. If this game does well it might show other developers that some of their old library can be revived with the same treatment and profit instead of just a new coat of paint like most remasters.
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order
Whats not to like about the potential of this game other than the fact that we know almost next to nothing. What we do know, however, is exciting to say the least. The pedigree of this studio in terms of creating gritty polished shooters and worlds is next to none. Modern Warfare changed the game for years to come and both Titanfall games created some of the best feeling shooting and traversal in a shooter. We are safe to say that it will look amazing and feel super smooth but they also have made some pretty great stories from the MW story to the attachment you have with BT and the amazing time travel sections of TF2 campaign. If this game wasn't looking like it would be a huge hit, then it would be pretty safe to say that EA would have cancelled it by now. They are no stranger to cutting the cord if something is looking promising as they have already canceled two Star Wars games since signing that deal in 2013.
Days Gone
I don’t think that Days Gone is getting a fair deal from fans and critics just yet. Days gone has had quite an interesting development so far. The rumor at E3 2016 was that Sony decided to pull something from the show and at the last minute needed to find something to fill the gap. This is where days gone was first shown, forced or not. My hunch is that this game was developing so well that it was looking quite polished and would look decent on stage. Days gone has a few things working against it, the first is that the world is less interested in zombie (freaker) games then they were when this game started development. The other thing is that since it was shown so early and didn't receive a lot of attention afterwards it seemed like the development was in trouble or that Sony wasn't happy with the project. This could be the case but I am inclined to think that this game will surprise people. I don't expect to to win game of the year from anyone but I do expect it to be well critically. Hopefully that can translate to commercial success as well. The world they have been building looks fun to explore and the tech they are using shows good promise. They have had plenty of time to work on this game since the last major game they released was in 2011 and with the uncharted vita game that was great for what it was. Hopefully they are learning some cool new tech to reboot the syphon filter series after this.
Control
The latest from remedy studios looks to be another solid sci-fi entry as a mix of quantum break with the universe of fringe. Not much is known about the game outside of a few trailers released around E3. One set the tone and the other showed a few minutes of gameplay. The problem with quantum break was that it relied too much on the tv show that was laced in between gameplay chapters. The story didn't hook me and in the time the tv show would launch it would just disconnect you from the immersion. The story of control seems to be a little more interesting with its sci-fi elements (think inception style) and the removal of the forced tv show. You would also assume that the removal of the tv show with paid actors and crew would save a lot on budget which could be allocated to the game development for better writing, gameplay and making sure it launches on time. Remedy is a publicly traded company, so missing ship date is highly unlikely.
I am beyond excited always for the future of gaming as it is always so unknown, but these are the games that we know a little about that I am most looking forward to playing this year.
