Games Like Callisto Protocol!

With Callisto Protocol and Dead Space Remake just around the corner, the wait is almost over, but what if you can’t wait or you are unsure if you want to pick these games up or you want to wait until there go on sale. In that case, here are five Sci-fi thrillers to play on Xbox Game Pass that might scratch that itch before Callisto Protocol and Dead Space Remake come out.

Doom 3

in 2004, Doom 3 finally released and if you had a PC that could run the game, you got something unexpected. Doom 3 was much more of a survival horror as opposed to a traditional fast paced FPS the series had become known for. Doom 3 looks to share a lot of the same elements of Callisto with experiments gone wrong, distant future, and the isolation of a bleak, metal, off world colony.

Dead Space Trilogy

Obviously, putting the trilogy on the list feels a little like cheating, but if you were going to play one of the titles, I would say play the first as it was most about the atmosphere, which made it feel the most like a survival horror out of the series.

Prey

Off world science facility, experimenting gone all kinds of wrong leads to similar themes as Callisto. Arkane leans more into the sci-fi aspect as opposed to the survival horror but that are many creepy elements throughout. The GLOO gun also adds in some interesting gameplay elements that Callisto also looks to touch on with some of the characters abilities including stasis.

Soma

The elevator pitch would be that the creators of Amnesia made a survival horror version of Bioshock. Soma fins you Isolated in a underwater facility as John Q Everyman. While there is much less action that what appears to be in Callisto, Soma makes up for with an unsettling atmosphere and the feeling of being trapped.

Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation does an amazing job of capturing the 70’s nostalgia of the first movie and also giving you the sacred for your life while feeling completely isolated. Alien Isolations biggest issue is that it overstayed its welcome with the last few hours of the game feeling unnecessary. Alien Isolation is more than worth playing for the first 80% of the game and its too bad that Creative Assembly didn’t make a sequel by refining what they have already created.

As mentioned all of these title are on Xbox Game Pass, so if you're already subscribed you have nothing to lose. Try the first hour and see which one sticks. All of these games feature a lot of the same elements of Callisto Protocol with each having a slightly different Venn diagram as to exactly which features they lean into more. If you are looking for the closest option try Dead Space, if you are looking for more psychological go for Soma, if you want a little more action try Doom 3, if you want a little more RPG exploration try Prey and if you want more survival horror try Alien Isolation.
