The Callisto Protocol (vs Dead Space)

Now that we have an official release date for The Callisto Protocol, there is only one thing left to do: Put it head to head against Dead Space and try to figure out which game is for you!

Both of these games are futuristic sci-fi survival horror games set in space, both of these games have a diegetic UI to maximize immersion, both feature over the shoulder third person perspective, both feature bad ass weapons, and both of these games came from one persons vision: Glen Schofield.

The Callisto Protocol is scheduled to release on December 2, 2022, which is extremely impressive for a studio that not only started the game but was also founded in 2019. It obviously makes a huge difference that Glen Schofield likely had the idea for Callisto long before Striking Distance was formed. Not only is it scheduled to release first but it’s a brand new IP from the creator of Dead Space, it features Josh Duhamel as the lead which could add some credibility to the acting, and it looks to feature multiple antagonists. Not only are you trying to survive against the mutated humans, known as the biophage but there also looks to be extremely lethal security robots patrolling the station.

Dead Space on the other hand is a known quantity but it is being developed exclusively for next gen consoles which could outshine Callisto because all resources are being poured into one version and this can be seen in the dev diaries in simple things like dialogue where there will be multiple options depending on the situation. This alone could take the immersion to the next level.

At the end of the day, there has never been a better time to be a fan of sci-fi survival horror after a long draught in quality. Both games will be a must buy for me, but if I had to decide between one or the other, I would take Callisto Protocol because a new IP developed by someone with passion for the genre is going to be hard to match.
