Dredge - 5 Beginner Tips For Smooth Sailing

Here are five quick tips that can help make your journey on the open waters just a little smoother when you start playing Dredge.

Map

Use D pad up to bring up map quickly. You will constantly be navigating the waters using your map and the quickest way to get in and out is up on the D-Pad rather than opening up your settings and then scrolling to map tab.

Read

You will find and be given books to read. Make sure your books are equipped. Just having the book won’t do anything but if you equip them then you will passively read them, which usually takes a day or two and then you will get a permanent bonus

Wake up early.

The game wakes you up at 6 am but if you do that then by the time you get out of the bay you have already lost a few hours of your day.  If you wake up at 4 am, then you will be leaving the bay with two more hours to explore and the waters are usually safe early in the morning.

Talk to everyone

The game tells you this but it should be emphasized.  Talk with every person. Some will give you hints about where to look for things of interest, some will give compelling stories about the lore of the world and some will give you quests that you could possibly be rewarded by.

Abuse Haste

Early on, if you’re helping people with what they need, you will be offered haste, which is basically turbo on your boat with an overheat meter.  If you overheat, it will ruin your engine requiring repair. However, if you just keep that meter at 90-95 percent and then let it cool you will be able to get more done during the day. It also doesn’t affect a trawling net if you want to equip one of those.

Bonus

I didn’t end up using the trawling net too much or the crab pots, so spend all your money on engine upgrades. Use the little jet engines that only take up one square on the grid to gain an additional 9-10 knots. The biggest thing is being able to get from one safe port to another to further your journey!
