Indie Games 2022

Upcoming Indie Games To Get Excited For

The first half of 2022 had some excellent indie games release including Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, Tunic, OlliOlli World, Neon White, SIFU and Shredders Revenge just to name a few. Looking at the remainder of the year and the games that are scheduled to release in 2022, there look to be a lot of indies to get excited for.

Here are our Most Anticipated Indie Games For 2022:

Silksong

You have to put Silksong on the list! Just like Lloyd Christmas said “So you’re telling me there’s a chance!” when Microsoft announced that all games shown at the Xbox Bethesda Summer Showcase would be due out within 12 months. Even though its likely going to be much closer to June 2023, there is a chance that it makes it out for 2022.

Cult of the Lamb

With a striking art style, a twisted concept and what appears to be a addictive gameplay loop, Cult of the Lamb looks to blend Hades, Diablo and Animal Crossing and is our most anticipated indie for the rest of the year. Cult of the Lamb is a rogue-lite, dungeon crawler and cult management rolled into one. You go out into the dungeons, try to save followers from huge bosses and convert them to your cult where they will come back to your camp to help gather resources for your next runs.

Somerville

Somerville looks like some type of post apocalyptic game where you are trying to survive in world that is evocative of HG Wells “War of The Worlds”. Minimalist art style, moody and somber music set the tone from what looks to be a mix of 2D and 3D worlds. While we may not know much about Somerville as of yet, we do know it’s coming to game pass on day one and it was created by Jumpship, who were founded by one half of playdead.

Planet of Lana

Planet of Lana looks to blend the heartfelt story and vibrant art of Ori with the 2D side scrolling puzzle solving and mysterious worlds of playdead, creepy spiders and all. Roaming around these worlds filled with War of the Worlds-esque mechs and sea creatures that take up the whole screen give Planet of Lana an epic feeling.

Lego: BrickTales

Lego’s are fun, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is fun, and puzzle games are fun. With these three factors all present in Lego: Bricktales, there are good odds that this game will be fun. It’s unlikely that we will get another Captain Toad game anytime soon but ClockStone, the team behind the bridge constructor series have taken the 3D diorama idea and put a Lego spin on it.

Little Devil Inside

Little Devil Inside is an action adventure RPG with survival elements that is set in an atmospheric, semi-open world. The art style says this game is more than just a simple Legend of Zelda clone though. The world has a imaginative stye with otherworldly monsters that seems like a joy to discover and conquer. You take on the role of a survivalist, treasure seeker looking for monsters and supernatural at the turn of the twentieth century. Coming as a surprise is that Little Devil Inside is also available in co-op.

Return to Monkey Island

Point and Click adventure games are few and far between, especially ones that have the humour like the games created by Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert. With the return of series creator Ron Gilbert, a new art style and the promise to modernize point and click games could be the shot in the arm the genre needs for a renaissance. Even without a revival of the genre, it will be great to have one more swashbuckling adventure.
