Is Monster Hunter Wilds Worth It for Solo Beginners?
IS MONSTER HUNTER WILDS A GOOD PLACE TO START?
If you’re like me, Monster Hunter as a franchise has always been intriguing, but equally daunting. However, it seems like with every successive release, the franchise slightly lowers the barrier to entry for newcomers. The other thing, is that as we get older, most people prefer to play solo games and studies can attest to this.
With Monster Hunter Wilds seemingly appearing to be the most welcoming game in the series, there are two big questions:
Is Monster Hunter Wilds A Good Place To Start?
Can You Play Monster Hunter Wilds Solo?
The short answer to both questions is yes, which we’ll get into, but there are few caveats to consider first. There are going to be some settings that you will need to adjust for the optimal single player experience and some tips to consider if you are a newcomer to the Monster Hunter franchise.
Let’s discuss Monster Hunter Wilds, how to play offline, if it’s good for beginners and how to have the best experience in single player .
HOW TO PLAY MONSTER HUNTER WILDS OFFLINE?
The first and easiest way to play Monster Hunter Wilds in Singler Player or in Offline Mode is disagree with the Privacy Policy. By disagreeing, the game will tell you that by doing so you wont have access to all of the games features, most importantly online play. You can change this in the future if you decide, but once you disagree with the privacy policy, it will notify you that the game will begin in Offline Mode, which is exactly what we want.
If you don’t select it this way, there are other ways that you can alter the settings to make sure you are playing in solo. You can select private lobby or you can also change quest settings by adjusting the party size. You can set the party size to one if you want to try every monster alone or or set party size to four if you want to use the support hunter feature. “Support Hunters” are computer companions who will come to your aid when you use the SOS feature. Just make sure in the settings that this is set to “Support Hunter Only” and not “Support Hunters and Players”.
Finally, since Monster Hunter Wilds is a game designed to be played online, there is no quick option to pause the game. However, there is a workaround if you want to pause the game while playing in offline mode. Go to the settings menu, then to the system tab and then select pause. This can come in handy when you are in the middle of a huge battle, but something comes up in the real world.
IS MONSTER HUNTER WILDS GOOD FOR BEGINNERS?
Now that we have covered how to play Monster Hunter Wilds Single Player in Offline Mode, the big question remains: Is Monster Hunter Wilds fun in single player mode and is it good for beginners. The answer to both of these questions is yes, but let’s tackle them one by one.
Monster Hunter has always been a series with a high bar to entry as there are a lot of systems to learn, and it demands patience. To begin Monster Hunter Wilds offers plenty of tutorials to help walk you through your adventure if this is your first time. It also gives you the option to display help one time or leaving them on. You could leave them on until you fully grasp everything and then turn them off in the settings when you are ready.
Before you begin your legacy as a Monster Hunter you need to select a weapon and this is another area that would push back against newcomers due to the fact that most weapons have a high learning curve. There are 14 weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds, luckily there are ways to try and make sure you get the one that suits you. First, it will ask you a few questions about your play style and offer a suggestion based on your answers.
After that, you will be able to test them all of on some dummies to see how they feel, which is another way that you can determine, which is best for you. Furthermore, back at camp there is a designated training area, where you can test your weapon out only a monster that has been made out of barrels. All of these are great ways to try and make sure the player gets the right weapon.
However, what I would recommend for the first time player is the heavy bow gun as it feels like the most straightforward weapon of them all. It controls the simplest, but even better is that the heavy bow gun is a ranged weapon, which will give you the space you need to learn the ropes.
IS MONSTER HUNTER WILDS GOOD SOLO?
Another great aspect of Monster Hunter Wilds is that hunts can be completed relatively quickly. When you factor in the cutscenes and the dialogue, the battles in the first five hours or so only take about 10-20 minutes once they start. This makes it a great game to casually pick up and play when you have the time. By the time the hunts take more time, you will also be more acclimated to the controls and gameplay.
Monster Hunter Wilds can be a challenging game, especially if you are either playing solo or you are new to the franchise. If you are playing solo, you still have the ability to call for help if you want to. During a fight, you can use the SOS and call for help using Support Hunters, which is the computer teammates, who will greatly assist with taking down monsters from drawing aggro at times or helping expose wounds.
Since Monster Hunter Wilds is a game designed to be played online, there is no quick option to pause the game. However, there is a workaround if you want to pause the game while playing in offline mode. Go to the settings menu, then to the system tab and then select pause. This can come in handy when you are in the middle of a huge battle, but something comes up in the real world.
One of the best reasons why Monster Hunter Wilds is great for single player is because you can finish the game in around 12-15 hours. You can feel like you have defeated the game and get a sense of accomplishment. However, if you loved the experience, the campaign is just the beginning as there is plenty of adventure to find long after the initial credits roll.
IS MONSTER HUNTER WILDS WORTH IT FOR OFFLINE SINGLE PLAYER?
If you've always wanted to jump into the Monster Hunter franchise, but either didn’t want to play online with others or always felt that it might be too hard to get into, the good news is that there has never been a better time.
