Roguelike - Keep, Complete, Delete

Keep, Complete, Delete

(Action Roguelike Edition)

Back in 2023, we were inspired by a very short segment on the Easy Allies podcast, which was a version of Kiss, Marry, Kill, but for video games. The idea is that there are three games, that are all very excellent in their own way and you need to make some very tough choices. Pick one game that you would get to keep forever , pick one game to fully complete one time only, and sadly, pick one game that gets deleted from existence. With the approval from Easy Allies to do this, let’s have some fun.

This time around we are going to be looking at premium Action Roguelikes with the choices being Dead Cells, Hades, and Rogue Legacy.

Keep Dead CElls

Out of these three games, Dead Cells is the game that keeps you coming back. Obviously with 35 updates and 5 DLC’s, it makes it easier to return, but even without the major updates, every run can feel very unique depending on what weapons you find and which paths you take. Everything is always in your hands, the game feel of Dead is also second to none with every frame feeling in your control. It’s a rewarding experience every time.

Complete Hades

The easiest answer out of these three would be to complete Hades. It is the only one that is based around a story that evolves every time you die. Hades is an incredible game that broke the mold for the genre by making the carrot at the end of the stick the story. Hades also never enticed me to play it multiple times. The satisfaction is the culmination of the story and not each incremental run after

Delete Rogue Legacy

Rogue Legacy is an incredible series that can take a lot of pride knowing that it was one of the cornerstones of the Roguelike renaissance that happened about ten years ago. The gameplay is extremely satisfying, but ultimately the reason that I would choose to delete it would be the autonomy that is removed from the player on some runs. Occasionally you will get heirs that are all bad traits and it’s out of your control. In most others, the choices are all up to the player.

It goes without saying that all of these games are incredible and no one these choices take anything away from any of them. Click the link for the video and let us know in the comments what your three choices would be. As always, remember to be nice to your fellow human, but more importantly, be nice to your fellow human.
