TMNT Shredder's Revenge

TMNT Shredder's Revenge (Final Preview)

Expectations were tempered heading into E3 or not E3 or summer game fest but whatever you want to call it, one of the highlights was the final TMNT: Shredders Revenge announcement before the release. Here is what you need to know.

TMNT: Shredders Revenge will release on June 16, yes a few months after I predicted but at least the other part of my prediction was right with the game being available day one on Xbox Game Pass. It will also be available digitally on PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Limited Run games will be releasing physical copies of the game and some are must buy for dedicated fans. There is a PC big box version like the 90’s when the boxes to computer games were huge like the Tomb Raider trapezoid box. There is also a classic edition for console that looks like a VHS box with a steel box inside with stickers and a coupon for a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut just like the old days.

If you’re feeling extra nostalgic there is also a Radical Edition that included everything from the classic edition plus a whole bunch ore including mini arcade cabinet that plays the trailer, soundtrack, strategy guide, poster, shadow box and action figure. Preorders for Limited Run Games ends July 24. According to LRG, shipping is expected late July or early August on the standard edition, with the classic and radical expected to ship in spring of 2023.

As is standard for the beat ‘em up genre dating back 30 plus years, local co op will be a feature but instead of traditional 2 or 4 player, it will feature 6 player local or online co op, which looks like absolute choas but whatever version they showed in the trailer, it appears to be running very smoothly for that much happening on screen at once. How is this possible with only 4 turtles though you ask, well that is because there are plenty of playable characters including the 4 turtles, April, Shredder and the newly unveiled Casey Jones. Unlike the beat ‘em ups of yesteryear, all the characters will have different attributes.

Finally, if you have made it this far this likely means you are a hardcore beat em up fan and if thats the case, you should check out or review of Go Straight: The Ultimate Guide To Side Scrolling Beat ‘Em Ups from Bitmap Books. For any fan of the genre, this book should be added to your collection with its high quality and breadth of information.
