21 Q Review - Good Job (Nintendo Switch)

This game came out of nowhere as it was revealed and released during the Nintendo Direct Mini on March 26, 2020. If you have questions about the game then we...

You have questions, we have answers and this is the Good Job 21 Q review.

What genre is it?

Good Job is an interactive action, physics based puzzle solving game in a similar vein as Overcooked, Death Squared or SnipperClips, or even the upcoming Moving Out. It takes basic mundane work situations like setting up a projector or increasing meeting attendance and adds a level of hilarity to them.

Who made it?

Paladin Studios, who have been making games since 2005 but probably nothing you have heard of but the game was published by Nintendo which is usually a positive indicator of what someone from Nintendo saw in this game early in development also to give it enough of a spotlight during a Direct.

Is it independent?

Yes, Paladin is a small indie studio based out of the Netherlands, who according to LinkedIn are comprised of just 40 people.

Is it console exclusive?

A mentioned Good Job is published by Nintendo and as of right now the game is only available on the Nintendo Switch, which is perfect to snap off the joy cons and play together. You can also use any other combination of controller methods.

How much is it?

Depending on which region you are in the game is around 20$.

Is the game fun?

Even though from the outside looking in Good Job may seem mundane, excellent gameplay alongside original style combine to make a very fun game, plain and simple.

Is it family friendly?

Good Job is a very cute and friendly game that would be fun when working together and although you get the best grade for beating the level fast and with as little destruction as possible, it could also be fun to see just how messy things can get. There is also no injuries that happen even with all of the destruction.

Is it good for couples?

That would depend on how your relationship survives Overcooked. There is still plenty of team work required in Good Job but not at the same heightened stress level, so if your relationship can handle the Overcooked test then Goos Job will be no problem at all. It much less high stress and more having a fun time.

Does it have single player?

Good Job is designed to be played in either single player or co-op, the design of each level doesn’t change. There are pros and cons to playing alone or together as it might take you longer when playing alone but two people working in the same tight area are more likely to cause more damage.

Is there a campaign or story?

The basic premise is that you are the clumsy child of CEO father and you want to make him proud which involves starting at the ground floor and working your way to the top. Basic office jobs include janitorial duties to setting up projectors for meeting and even moonlighting as the firms IT department and solving internet issues.

Is there co-op?

One of the best things about a co-op puzzle game is the camaraderie that only couch co op can provide and Good Job offers another fine dose of it. One of the best aspects of this game is just how seamlessly the screen separates as each worker tries to accomplish tasks on their own and then stitches back together once the characters are close enough.

Is there multiplayer?

The game doesn’t feature online multiplayer which I don’t think would work well for Good Job but as mentioned it does have some great local co op and those games are harder to find these days.

How long is it?

Obviously, this depends on your ability to perform at work safe and efficiently. Working solo or with a friend wont change the play time drastically and you are looking at around 4-5 hours to compete all of the floors.

Is the replay factor?

That would depend on your desired level of completion. There are grades that you receive from each department on each floor based on speed, lack of destruction among others that factor into your overall grade. If you want to get the best grade, you will have to play each department multiple times. There are also over 100 outfits hidden throughout the game.

Does it look good?

Although it’s not pushing the technical limitations of the system with its cutting edge graphics, it instead has a fantastic style that Paladin has chosen help Good Job stand out from the crowd. The end result is an eye catching game that uses bright colours and looks like a safety sign that has come to life.

Does it control well?

As with any action puzzler, the majority of the fun revolves around whether or not the controls work well. Controls need to be simple and not interfere with the puzzles or the fun and Good Job has very simple controls that allow you to do whatever you need easily so you can enjoy solving the problems.

Does it have micro transactions ?

No, once you buy the game, all the in game cosmetics are throughout the levels hidden and waiting for you to find them.

Any planned DLC?

As of right now what has launched with the game is the complete package however, if the game is enough of a success, then I can see the team at Paladin adding extra floors as updates. Following the path of Overcooked would be ideal with a combination of free and paid updates.

What is the best part about this game?

Good Job has a lot of positives going for it including art style, simplicity, price, co-op but the best thing about Good Job is that it remains interesting from beginning to end thanks to its changing environments and jobs. Using all kinds of things from forklifts to cranes keeps the enjoyment at peak levels.

What is the worst part about this game?

My main problem with Good Job is that the level aren’t tailored to solo or co-op play. This means that playing alone can sometimes feel like a chore to have to do something that would be a breeze with two players working in unison. On the flip side there are times when playing co-op just feels either too easy or one of the players isn’t really accomplishing much other than looking around and causing unnecessary destruction.

Do you recommend it?

Good Job offers such a light hearted look at what it takes to make it in the corporate world, starting from the bottom and working your way to the top. Sure you should be fired on your first day for the amount of damage you create and how inefficient you are, but I guess there are perks to being the bosses child.

Local co-op games that work as well as Good Job are much harder to come by these days especially when it involves a game as easy to pick up as this one. Anyone can pick up and play this game. Good Job is a great game to play alone and even better to play together. If you enjoy games like SnipperClips, Death Squared, or OverCooked then you’ll love this game
