DREDGE Game Review

Dredge Review

Foreward: The plan was to include one or two sayings about boating and the open seas but then something dark and mysterious took over and the decision was made to see how many could be fit in the review while at the same time still sounding coherent. The answer is 21.Here is our review for Dredge

Don’t miss the boat for Dredge, as very few games can match the pacing and intrigue of this game. There are plenty of fish in the sea and plenty of things to do including looking for shipwrecks, fishing, trying to upgrade your ship, helping others plus your imagination that’s tug boating at the back of your mind about what is just beyond the horizon. There is never a dull moment because there is also a huge lovecraftian can of worms mystery that wraps up this whole package. Before you know it, hook line and sinker you have an addiction to take just one more pass at the open seas as it drip feeds you clues and hints about this strange world.

The early bird gets the worm which you should put on the end of your rod while it’s light out because mysterious things start happening at night. This is when you want to batten down the hatches because a man is never lost at sea, unless you are at sea after dark and then you can easily get lost in the thick fog or even die as the world transforms and at this point you begin looking for any port in the storm for survival as the dark waters are extremely dangerous.

Knowing the ropes is pretty easy as the game slowly teaches you everything that you need to know, instead of rocking the boat and throwing everything at you at once, which would leave you feeling blue. Rough seas make good sailors as even if you go out during the day and don’t accomplish anything, there is a good chance you learned something.

It’s not all smooth sailing as there could be a few things that should have been kept above board that would make for a more enjoyable and immersive experience. Voice acting and the ability to zoom in on the map as well as make you own custom markers to remind yourself where you want to explore. However, Dredge is too good that you will want to stay through thick and thin

You will want all hands on deck with Dredge…Steam Deck because it works on handheld perfectly with it’s perfect pacing and you’re ability to get out to the open waters and before you know it that ship has sailed. Time to reel it in and close out this review. Dredge is off the hook with its simple yet addictive gameplay loop. Paired with a very intriguing story that is much more of a show don’t tell along with satisfying mechanics and it’s as the saying goes Red Sky at Night, Dredge is a delight
