Jedi Survivor (5 Reasons To Be Excited)
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (5 Reasons To Be Excited)
Back in 2019, we awarded Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order our game of the year. With Respawn announcing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for release early in 2023, we thought we would take a look at the top 5 reasons to be excited for our next adventure with Cal Kestis based on what Director Stig Asmussen had to say in a recent interview.
Next Gen Only!
“The biggest thing is lighting. Allowing us real time lighting all the time, meaning we get to see changes as we tweak the lights — immediately. That means we have more time to polish, that means we can iterate more and we can get better results that feel more filmic” Fallen Order’s biggest complaint was that it was a little janky in spots and producing next gen only, a lot of this should be cleaned up to not only run better but feel more immersive.
More BD-1
“I don’t want to spoil anything about where we’re going with Cal and BD-1, but you can rest assured they're a connected, they're a really special duo. It’s part of our law when we’re making the game. We put that love into creating him. When I saw I BD droid in Book of Boba Fett with my kids, it brought tears to my eyes.” Listening to Stir Assmussen, it certainly sounds like with the positive reception from Fallen Order, BD-1 is going to play an even bigger role this time around.
Darker Tone
Fallen Order had some dark elements, like Cal surviving order 66, but there was a lot of lighter elements to it with the camaraderie between the hodgepodge crew, or how Cal and BD-1 got along. “This game is all about survival. They are in dark times and Cal and the crew are doing whatever it takes to stay alive”
DualSense
Gimmicky or not is a fine line that the DualSense features fall under at times. The power within the controller in the adaptive triggers or the haptic feedback are unmatched in gaming, but it needs to be done right or the player just turns them off. This is one of the benefits of next gen only “PS5 has some really interesting haptics on their controller that we are digging into” The amount of ways that the Dualsense features could be built around a lightsaber could be interesting, especially if they change along your journey as you crafted new upgrades for your lightsaber.
Release Date
One of the biggest reasons to be excited is that it sounds like we won’t have to wait long to experience the next metroidvania chapter with Cal Kestis. According to Jeff Grubb, his inside information have the release date for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as early 2023, likely February or March. Premium games have found strong success releasing in early parts of the year with the most recent example being Elden Ring. Holiday is no longer a necessity for high profile games.
