Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2?

In 2015, Helldivers was released for the PS3, PS4 and PSVita by Arrowhead Game Studios, a smaller Swedish development team from consisting of around 60 people. Crossplay was featured between all the PlayStation versions, which was pretty unheard of back in 2015. Helldivers was a retro style, top down shooter that featured a lot of modern elements including friendly fire and load outs, which helped it stand out.

Sony has made their desire public to create ten live service games by 2025. Helldivers 2 could very well be one of these ten games as the original had some live service ideas already implemented in 2015 including the ongoing planetary wars that would be affected by how many players are enlisting in the cause. Add this idea to things like Battle Passes and you have the groundwork for seasonal content.

Since Helldivers, Arrowhead has not released another game, which is very interesting since during the studios early years between 2011 and 2015 they released four games. Considering their aptidtude of developing games across multiple platforms, it’s very likely and lucrative that if they release Helldivers 2, it would likely be on PS4, PS5 and PC with cross play featured across all versions.

Helldivers was critically well received with an 84 review average and was also nominated for a few DICE awards including Best Action and Best Handheld Game, which it won the latter. Saleswise, its much harder to find this data, but assuming that Magicka, the studios first game sold almost 4 million copies and that the 2020 Nvidia leaked had Helldivers 2 listed, it seems like a sequel makes sense.

Considering Arrowhead released Helldivers in 2015, over seven years ago, there is a good chance that Helldivers 2 is in our near future.
